Relationship Centered Communication Facilitators Program

RCF Trainer Certificate

The Academy of Communication in Healthcare (ACH) supports the development of Relationship-Centered Communication Facilitators (RCFs). ACH employs a Train-the-Trainer process that equips facilitators to thoughtfully introduce relationship-centered communication (RCC) skills that help learners hone their personal effectiveness and reconnect to their professional purpose. The program enhances quality of work life, while improving patient care.

Participants who successfully complete the RCF program are recognized as "Relationship-Centered Communication Facilitators (RCFs)." Graduates receive a certificate of completion along with permission to facilitate future ACH programs on behalf of their sponsoring or "home" institution. "Home" may include any clinical department or formally affiliated clinic. The RCF program is one of the pre-requisite tracks for individuals who may wish to apply to the ACH Faculty-in-Training (FIT) program

Pathways to Becoming a Relationship-Centered Communication Facilitator:

ACH offers two pathways to becoming an RCF: Organizational/In-House and Individual/Open Enrollment. The content and learning goals are the same in each pathway.

  • Individual (Open Enrollment): ACH offers annual application periods so that individuals from various organizations who share a commitment to becoming a Relationship-Centered Communication Facilitator can complete the process together (see details below).
  • Organizational (In-House): ACH will tailor towards an organization's goals and bring the train-the-trainer program to the organization by preparing a local cohort of internal facilitators (typically 4-6 or more). Organizations interested in developing an internal team of facilitators can contact ACH to explore opportunities to bring an ACH Relationship-Centered Communication Facilitator (RCF) Train-the-Trainer Program to their organization.

RCC Fundamental Workshop:
Relationship-Centered Communication (RCC) skills lead to better outcomes for patients, clinicians, teams, and health care institutions. The evidence-based fundamental workshop has been proven to enhance communication skills among clinicians and across healthcare teams.

Program Content:

  • Workshop design
